‘Why I like my ideas’ BS
I really hate to pan this book because I completely agree with the argument that we should be be thinking about and seeking evidence for the existence of alien civilizations. The author, however, it seems to me, is one of those ‘enfant terrible’ types one finds at top universities. Smart as a whip in certain areas but completely immature and lacking judgment generally. I was open to the hypothetical that ‘Oumuamua might be the product of an alien civilization but after reading this book I was not only unconvinced but I became more sympathetic to the arguments of the scientific mainstream that it was a natural phenomenon.
And as a general rule I think when an author restates their main beef a thousand times in a single book, something is out of kilter. Has the author lost his marbles? Something smells...
