I liked the clean white appearance and the size of this cooler so I bought it. I had seen quite a few comments about Igloo's plastic latches and hinges breaking, but I have had another Igloo cooler with plastic hardware for over 20 years with no problems! I also got sucked in by the number of positive reviews. The people who wrote positive reviews must have done so after using the cooler only once or twice, as aside from the purposely flimsy hardware, it is a very nice cooler. After using my cooler for a year of light and careful use, one latch broke where the plastic bends and the other is half torn through. I expect the hinges to go in the same place before too long. I sat my older cooler next to the new one to compare them, and was amazed that Igloo changed from inexpensive but durable old-style plastic latches and hinges (still going strong after 20 plus years) to these flimsy new ones that lasted a year! Maybe they saved 26 cents in manufacturing? The only explanation I can think of is that Igloo either has morons in engineering and product development, or that they didn't want their coolers to last for 20 years. Igloo also sells replacement hardware at inflated prices, adding another source of revenue. These coolers are engineered NOT to last. Personally, I do not like to use my consumer dollars to support a company with this business philosophy, so I have to recommend that you buy an alternative product.
