Timberland Needs To Be Investigated!!!
First The Pros: These boots have a nice look, they are not bulky like some hikers, and they are extremely lightweight for boots. The fit and comfort is almost perfect out of the box & easily perfected with an upgraded insole. If you look at the pics you can see that I used to strongly believe in the Timberland brand. I usually hike in pretty DRY areas, and by hike, I simply mean that I aggressively walk with backpack through wooded and flat areas for a couple of hours. That is how I’m assuming Timberland got away with the fraud for so long, I never tested their claims in any moist settings. I recently changed my routine from afternoon hikes & started early morning hikes instead to avoid the heat. To my surprise my "WATERPROOF" boots had my feet soaked within minutes of walking in the morning dewed grass. I was literally at a loss for words and miserable as I continued. That same day, I made tons of mental excuses for Timberland, as to why my boots were not really waterproof. So after much debate, I regretfully continued my blind loyalty and ordered another pair, this time I got the "Chocorua Trail Gore-Tex Mid Hiking Boot" mainly because they are said to be GORE-TEX. I know from my full military career that Gore-Tex is great and has never let me down in 20+ years, so I felt like this was a safe purchase. The shipping came promptly, as majority of Prime packages do, and the boots looked nice out of the box. Next morning, I laced them up, and hit the trail for a light "break in" hike. About a mile in, I felt really glad that I made the switch from my "Timberland White Ledge Men's Waterproof Boot" (which I also bought on Amazon) simply labeled "waterproof" to the obviously superior "Gor-Tex.” Unfortunately the joy was very short lived. Less than half a mile later, I could feel the water on my toes. Extremely disappointed at this time I just stopped, took the pic that you see and filmed a bit of the hike just for the sake of this review. I can’t believe I’ve been screwed by such an established company. Once I got home, I took a few pictures, dusted the grass off of the boots and left them to dry next to the other Timberland failures. The next morning the boots had turned a very dusty brown color, just from being exposed to that small amount of water. I have never saw that happen with my other ones. That strange occurrence was just more insult to injury. Obviously, I have requested a return for the “Gor-Tex" boots. I wish there was a way to get my money back on the first two pair of boots as well. I missed the 30 day window. If this only happened to one pair, or model, I probably would have continued making excuses for Timberland. At this point, I cannot believe that any of these shoes are made with the material that they are advertised. To Be Clear: I ordered 3 different pair of Timberland's, all allegedly waterproof and NONE held up to the basic morning dew in the field that I hike (which can be seen in the video attached.) Timberland Men's Euro Hiker Boot (failed) Timberland White Ledge Men's Waterproof Boot (failed) Timberland Men's Chocorua Trail Gore-Tex Mid Hiking Boot (failed) Please feel free to give me some recommendations for boots that will handle my small demands. Thanks for your time!
