I shudder to think of schools adopting this as a method of teaching math. It's simply learning shorthand math tricks that, while useful, don't contribute to a foundational knowledge in even the most trivial of mathematic concepts.
Just buy "Secrets of Mental Math" by Benjamin and Shermer for $10 and work through it with your kid. You'll both learn all the same tricks, you'll save $140, and at least they'll be reading a book instead of staring at a TV.
