I have lost my appetite.
WARNING: It is MORE THAN LIKELY that this developer is pulling a PERMISSIONS BAIT AND SWITCH while this app is the FREE APP OF THE DAY! Please read and I will elaborate: if you look at the other apps from this developer, you will see that they are asking for just about every invasive permission under the sun. YET, this app, while FAOTD, seems to be "cleaned up". It is my belief that this is a RUSE so that people don't "notice" just how much this developer seems to enjoy taking over our devices, while this app is the FAOTD. Then, perhaps in a few days or so, they may just "update" it and put the same permissions in as all of their other apps. I don't know this for sure, but if you just go look at what else they are offering, it's pretty obvious that this is highly likely. So BE WARNED.
But never mind the questionable permissions that taken on their own make me not want to have this app installed on my device long term-- the app itself is simply awful. It's convoluted. It's unorganized. The sources of the recipes are pretty random. I don't believe the developer's promise that the recipes are "tested" for one second. Why would they make such an impossible statement when it is quite clear that they are just linking to other websites?
No thank you; and the fact they want to charge for this at all when it's obviously not even their own original content really makes it a "1 star" app for me-- because there are apps that are free that blow the doors off of this one and they are plentiful.
But again, the permissions of the other apps from this developer are frightening. There's no way in my mind that this app is any different at the end of the day. I think they just "cleaned it up" in a weak attempt to avoid the "wrath" of people like me who call developers out for pulling this garbage on people. Nothing about this app is any different from any of their others. We shall see in the coming days if I am right about them switching the permissions later, after the FAOTD is over, to match EVERY ONE of their other apps. We shall see. If I am wrong, I will update this review accordingly and raise the rating at least 1 more star for effort at least.
UPDATE: For sake of reference, the permissions on the developer's other apps I shall list for you, below:
Read only access to phone state
Required to be able to access the camera device
Open network sockets
Write to external storage
Access fine (e.g., GPS) location
Access coarse (e.g., Cell-ID, Wi-Fi) location
Access information about networks
Record audio
PowerManager WakeLocks to keep processor from sleeping or screen from dimming
Allows an application to receive messages via Google Cloud Messaging
