Ditto on the placebo effect, as a result of desperately small dosage?
The reason I am giving this a 2 star review instead of 1 is because it's hard to imagine all the 5 star reviews are the result of a placebo effect. However because of my careless shopping I failed to notice that the capsules contain 400 mcg - that's mCg - of sulforophane. That is 0.4 MG. While "A 1-ounce serving [of broccoli sprouts] provides 73 milligrams of sulforaphane glucosinolate" ("glucoraphanin, the precursor to sulforaphane, or SFN, also known as glucoraphanin sulforaphane"). So IF this supplement contains the precursor and the sulforophane can be physically utilized, and IF sulforaphane glucosinolate is equivalent to the sulforophane in these capsules, then it would take 182 capsules to get the same amount of sulforophane as in 1 ounce of broccoli sprouts. Yet in "A 2009 Japanese study of broccoli’s effect on Helicobacter pylori found that consumption of about 70 grams (2.5 ounces) of broccoli sprouts daily for two months reduced Helicobacter pylori colonization in the stomach by about 40%." To achieve that dosage would require 455 of these capsules per day. Perhaps the sulforaphane glucosinolate is not equivalent to the sulforophane in these caps. Maybe the seller would be kind enough to weigh in on this. After carrying H Pylori for at least 4 years (from when it was first diagnosed), I blood tested negative for my H Pylori after a couple of weeks on broccoli sprouts in conjunction with Pyloricin, though I had also switched over to an almost completely plant based diet a few months previously. I credited the broccoli sprouts, but am leaning more toward crediting the Pyloricin (particularly in light of the positive feedback on the supplement). I'm going back to growing broccoli sprouts (and will try juicing them since I can't imagine choking down 2.5 ounces of them a day!). I have found that broccoli seeds are the cleanest and easiest seed to sprout in quart jars with screens, particularly for 3-day old sprouts.
