and learned from a pro that silane and siloxane-based products are usually a good way to go
Here is a summary of my very negative experience with this product. I have a 15 year-old driveway that had some minor chipping and spalling. I did my homework, and learned from a pro that silane and siloxane-based products are usually a good way to go. I enjoy a good DIY so, I found Foundation Armor. I do not want to risk being unfair in my review, so I will stick to a quick summary of exactly how I applied this product in conjunction with the S2000 product (applied some time before). I followed the recommended directions to the letter. I live in Colorado, so rest-assured the climate is very dry and residual moisture was not an issue. You will see some pictures which clearly depict how badly this product affected the finish of my driveway. I live in an HOA covenanted neighborhood, and it is safe to say that this "protectant" will wind up costing me a small fortune to properly resurface and repair (I've already had some complaints). Here is the process I followed for preparing my driveway. I found a stretch of weather in Colorado where we had a long period of sunshine between 45 and 70 degrees. Not uncommon here. No rain. I shut off my sprinklers for the duration. 1. Week 1, T-minus 72 hours to S2000 application, I power washed my entire driveway using Simple Green, gave it a scrub, and a high pressure rinse, twice 2. Week 1, time of application for S2000, I used a low pressure, hand pump sprayer to spray my entire drive and front walk with S2000 - application was thorough, but uniform, no puddling or pooling 3. Week 1, +48 hours after application of S2000, my drive was visibly dry and I re-allowed traffic 4. Week 2, T-minus 24 hours to SX5000 (siloxane) application, I used a power blower to clean off my drive and ensured no new moisture or substance had come in contact with the surface 5. Week 2, time of application for SX5000 "test", I rolled a small square on my driveway with a standard roller, and within 24 hours it was dry to the eye with no dark spots remaining 6. Week 2, +24 hours after initial test, I continued the application method with a roller of SX5000 used in test, ensuring uniform application (no puddling or pooling, same application as my test) 7. Week 2, +72 hours after full application, I have the issues as-presented with the attached pictures, and severe spotting / dark spots across much of my drive - with no pre-application visual differences between these spots Do note that Foundation Armor was very hard to get in-touch with after I had these issues. I was in-contact with two gentlemen at Foundation Armor. Mike, a sales / engineer recommended that I try to treat the problem by "vigorously rubbing acetone" into the dark spots. The last of these images reflects the after-state of trying that. It actually made the problem worse because the acetone caused the effect of droplet-spotting from any splashes. The manager, Eric, attempted to call me back once, but in general offered no help and actually advised me that my application was at-fault. You may be the judge based on my careful detail, above. I can tell you that I continued to test this product on other, inconspicuous pieces of concrete on my lot, to see if there was any way to apply it to avoid these problems. Granted, you will see that the blemishing is not uniform, or predictable. That is part of the issue. I had mild success if I applied so little of the product (via low pressure spray vs. rolling) that I would estimate it is "doing nothing". Even in those regions I had some staining. Good luck. I wish that the product had not visually wrecked my three car driveway. But, in the end, DIY comes with those caveats. I'd gladly have paid a contractor several hundred dollars more to have some accountability, recourse, and actual help when things went badly.
