★☆☆☆☆
Harumph!!
I enjoyed the book until I read, on page 271, “...but still he kissed her and told her he didn’t care if they were witches or warlocks or zombies or Republicans.” Another proof that conservative thinkers and value-holders are perceived as less than normal, somehow freakish, and at best a joke! And that that attitude is a normal and healthy! How deeply offensive and frightening for our society! I lost all interest in the remainder of the book and in the sequel- which, more’s the pity, I’ve already purchased. The author’s personal politics have no place in a work of fiction. A big irony is that the book’s theme speaks to owning who you are regardless of the shame others bring to their interpretation of you. Who is she to shame conservative thinkers?
