The book was just okay. I have a house in Cambria & read it for that reason. It seemed like the book was written by two different authors or that the main character, Kate, had two different personalities. First, she was this passive book-store owner who, due to her history with men, wasn't interested in dating & had no feelings one way or the other for Jackson. THEN, she woke up one morning & morphed into a lecherous skank. Her every thought & action was trying to get this guy's pants off. The same guy, she previously had no feelings for. It was a bit over the top & got very, very, old. I also hated that she didn't portray a strong female role. She allowed her strong-willed father & new wife to move in & take over her apartment, eat her food, lock her out of her bedroom & only bathroom & turn the place into a pig sty. What does she do? Moves into her neighbors tiny apt & takes that over! Just didn't really like Kate at all. She also portrayed Cambria in a completely false light. It is not a hip, Laguna Beach-type town as she described. You won't find any women wearing heels. It's a retirement community where the residents are mostly very old. Anyone younger than 50 would be one of the thousands of tourists who swarm Cambria from the San Joaquin Valley, mostly during the summer to escape the 100+ temps. It was described by someone who said all the residents were on oxygen.
