The Epson VS230 is one of its "unique" product line of projectors it advertises to be "PC Free." The pitch is that business persons or their clients do not require a PC to play slide shows. In fact, bringing a PC at all to the workplace is unnecessary. Instead, as the story goes, all the user needs to do is download the presentation to a flash drive, plug the storage stick directly into the projector, and do the presentation. No PC required. Its "PC-Free". Epson even posts a youtube instruction video wherein a nice Epson employee describes and demonstrates the simplicity of the process. So based upon Epson advertisement and instructional video, I bought the projector. After all my research, and after being shown the simplicity of the process, what could go wrong? However, after spending hours repeatedly plugging in the flash drive into the projector usb port,no matter what I did, the projector would not detect the ppt file. I contacted Epson technical support. Their response: "Thank you for contacting Epson regarding your Epson VS230. I'm sorry you are having difficulties with the PC-Free feature. Unfortunately, yes, ppt files are not supported by this feature. To project Powerpoint slides directly from a USB flash drive, they will need to be saved as image files." In other words, to use the PC-Free feature, users are required to use a PC to convert ppt file to image files before the PC-Free feature works. The most common file used for presentations is ppt. One of Epson's major selling point of this type of Epson projector is that it has a PC-Free feature that allows slide show presentations without a PC. I can find no place wherein Epson discloses in the description of its projector that the PC-Free feature does not support ppt files. As a business customer, I believe this factoid should be front and center in the description of the product. To do otherwise is really unfair, and I believe misleading to customers. I wish this review had been posted before I bought the projector.
