NOT SECURE. SCHLAGE CONSIDERING DESIGN CHANGE. Don't use for security.
I was really excited to get this lock. I've enjoyed other Schlage products without issues. However, after some inspecting of this lock I found what I consider to be a serious design/security flaw. I'll explain... First, I want to give kudos to Schlage for the finish of the product, as well a feature that other locks don't have. Many locks of this nature can easily be opened with a large magnet stuck to the side of it to actuate the push/pull solenoid that is activated when you enter your code. Schlage decided to use a screw type solenoid to defeat this bypass technique. However, they left the lock open to being defeated very easily with a simple drill bit. I have uploaded a video of this bypass to my review to show what I'm describing. It takes literally seconds to bypass this lock and leave a hole on the underside of the lock where people won't even look if they are burglarized. I realize this is a residential grade 2 lock. However, I honestly believe with as little effort as it took to do this bypass, it should not be possible. They should have an anti-drill plate or some other security feature to prevent this. As a side note, I contacted Schlage (Parent company Allegion) as well as Amazon Vine support about this issue. I gave them a month to look into this and they are considering a design change, per the product manager of this lock series. Until they change it or pull it completely, I would HIGHLY recommend that you don't use this for security on anything... use it like you would a bathroom door lock, for convenience. My .02 Edit 01/28/15 for grammar correction.
