Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

I bought this book based on all the 5 star reviews. But, I have to say that while it is well written (at least there aren't any noticeably bad grammatical mistakes, such as inappropriately used homophones or possessive/plural forms), I simply do not like the characters! And, that, for me, is a fatal flaw I can not get past. I will not be buying any more in this series. It will be interesting to see what future reviews of this book have to say. I am a voracious reader, a book a day, and primarily in the urban fantasy genre (Kim Harrison, Laurell K Hamilton,Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Carrie Vaughn, Jennifer Estep, Chloe Neill, Thea Harrison, JA Saare, Darynda Jones, Kalyna Price, JD Robb, Keri Arthur, Seanan McGuire, Sierra Dean, Christina Henry, Jim Butcher, Faith Hunter, Melissa Olsen, etc.), but, again, the characters here just are not my cup of tea. Edited to add: This grew on me after I finished it and gave it more thought. I am keeping my original rating because I still have problems with the primary character who is an unrepentant slum lord, eats her own finger, tortures and kills people for pleasure and then dismembers and arranges their body parts "artistically", enjoys sex rough enough to leave her arm hanging by a tendon, admires John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy, etc. But, that said, there are some interesting parts to it and if the author had made the main character more likable, this would have been a very good series. After reflection, I did go ahead and purchase the other two books and enjoyed them a bit more than the first and, while I doubt I will go to the effort of reviewing them, I would probably give them 3 stars, perhaps even 3 1/2, if half stars possible, although they would not get a 4 from me. While I did like the other two better, they were less well edited and contained quite a few grammatical errors. Should there be additional books in the series, I will most likely buy them to see if there continue to be improvements and what developments happen in the plot regarding the angels. (Don't want to give spoilers.)
