TOTAL RIP OFF! Weak concentration of Elderberry, ineffective and loaded with sugar.
I just realized that all this tine I had been wasting my money on the wrong product! I believe in the immunity boosting powers of elderberry and am willing to pay for the benefits. I normally buy Sambucus on Amazon but one day ran out and went to the expensive and upscale natural, health food store in my neighborhood to get a bottle. Although they sold Sambucus there, and made a lot of money with it, the nutritional & supplement expert working there flat out told me not to buy it. He said it was not worth the money. Instead, he highly recommended the Now Foods brand of elderberry concentrate. He pointed out on the labels that this product had only 50 mgs of Elderberry per teaspoon whereas the Now Foods brand has TEN TIMES the amount of elderberry at 500 mgs per tsp! Thats TEN TIMES THE AMOUNT of elderberry in the same sized bottle. And not only was the Now brand ten times stronger, it sold for HALF the price! The supplement expert at the health food store informed me that the reason Sambucus only included 50 mgs elderberry per tsp is because they add such a high percentage of fructose/corn syrup. They do this in an attempt to completely mask the sour taste of the elderberry and people buy it for this reason. If you like the taste of Sambucus you can make your own for 1/10th the cost by mixing 1 bottle of Now Food brand elderberry with 10 equally sized bottles of pure corn syrup, sugar or fructose. I bought the Now Foods brand and decided to drink it straight, at ten times the strength, i was expecting the taste would be horrible but I was pleasantly surprised....it actually tasted WAY better, almost like straight cranberry juice. Although im forever grateful to that store for enlightening me I now purchase my Now Foods Elderberry at Amazon out of convenience. Despite its super-duper concentrated formula, my entire family still drinks a full teaspoon anyway. Since we started increasing our dosages tenfold on the Now foods brand, none of us has gotten sick!
