Stopped working 2X - excessive leftover grinds
After less than 6 months of use, the Encore coffee grinder stopped working altogether. Probable power failure. I expected it to last longer. To their credit, Baratza's customer service was responsive and shipped me another unit. The replacement unit was a refurbished unit but it worked and was covered by the same warranty. The replacement unit failed shortly after the warranty period expired. Baratza does have an affordable $45 send in for repair option but I'm switching to a manual grinder. I grind ~20g of coffee beans every day - not a heavy user user of the grinder. Even 20g left a significant amount of grinds in the chute and the upper grind area. Try it yourself, grind 2 scoops of beans empty the bin and leave it off, then tilt the grinder forward and tap it on the sides. Now, to be fair, every grinder has some leftovers but the Encore's are significant. If you change up the beans, you'll be getting all grinds from the beans before. Again, to their credit, Baratza was responsive to my complaint of excessive grinds. They attributed it to static. I beg to differ, there's alot of leftovers and it's not all chafe. Baratza suggested adding a few drops of water to the beans which I did but I still had significant leftovers in the chute/grind area. The Encore grinder gets alot of good reviews from consumer test sites. It's a good affordable burr grinder when its working. It has an adjustable on the fly grind. The grinds are consistent. Baratza's customer service is responsive. However, 2 Encore grinder failures and excessive leftover grinds and I'm not convinced it's the best grinder for the money and the time spent dealing with the replacement and cleaning it. The picture is of leftover grinds from one scoop of beans.
