A Definite Must Not See
Prince Akim is still married to Lisa and they have 3 daughters but no son. Akeem must offer the hand of one of his children in marriage in order to keep the peace. He and Semmi visit King Jaffe, who informs Akeem that he does in fact have a son.
Apparently, the night that Akeem and Semmi went out to the nightclub looking for women and met so many undesireable candidates, they took two women back to the apartment. One got Akeem high then had sex with him. So begins the journey back to America to find the long lost child. This is the basic premise of the film, but the majority of the story takes place indoors back in Zamunda and focuses on blended family issues. The first film didn't take itself too seriously and relied heavily on amusing moments rather than outright jokes. This sequel has no amusing moments - it tries too hard to get laughs.
Another sore spot for many, will be the absence of Madge Sinclair, who played Queen Aoleon in the first film. Sadly, Mrs. Sinclair passed away in 1995, after a long battle with Leukemia. James Earl Jones is back and we get multiple brief cameos from Morgan Freeman to Salt N Pepa. The one truly bright spot comes at about 17 minutes in with a musical performance from Gladys Knight. There is brief humor with the return of the "bark like a dog" girl. With a run time of 1 hour and 48 minutes, it's too long with almost no entertainment value. This is a definite must not see.
