BEFORE YOU BUY - What if the bike malfunctions-and needs servicing?
I'm not one to write negative reviews usually...
I researched this bike, read the reviews, and was super excited to get this bike, especially during Covid Lockdown.
I ordered on 7/5/20 from Amazon, it arrived 7/15. Shortly thereafter assembled.
I WAS LOVING THIS BIKE!! Riding it 3-5 days per week for 25-40 minutes.
I was gaining condition, I was sweating, I was decompressing and managing my stress load.
I would look forward to riding this bike every day!!
Then on my 40th ride (yes I was tracking my workouts) about mid way in, the chain started making
unusual and irregular noises, bad noises, and I could feel something was not quite right as I pedaled through revolutions. I stopped riding as soon as this malfunction happened... as clearly something was not right... and would only get worse.
I contacted Assault Fitness that same day. No one answered the phone, so I emailed them from their customer service page. I'm sure they are super busy with everyone working out at home. That same day I received a response, asking for purchase details, serial number, and a video of the problem. I sent it off. Shortly thereafter I got an email saying they were sending me a replacement chain. 2 or 3 days later they sent me a shipping number saying the item was being shipped. 11 days after I contacted customer service, the replacement chain arrived.
In Summary:
Why does a $700 bike need a replacement chain (or any other part) after 20 hours of riding? Regular riding at that... 45-65 RMP... ??? It should not, clearly. The chain needed adjustment or got stretched, out or perhaps something was installed improperly... in any case one if the chains got loose and was no longer tracking properly... therefor would need servicing if i wanted to ride it.
And B... what exactly am I suppose to do with the replacement chain? yeah... good luck, unless you are a bike mechanic. There is a reason this bike arrives 90% already assembled. I have plenty of tools, I have worked on repairing my commuter bike, you will need specialized or unusual tools to replace this chain.
This bike should not be having these issues after 20 hours of riding. The bike appears well made. I was loving the bike.
But what am I supposed to do, pay someone to repair a month old bike? that is absurd. If the chain went 20 hours in... it is likely to go again... right?
Thankfully Amazon's customer service has been very helpful, and I appreciate their efforts!
I wish this story had a happier ending... but this bike did not work out. And if it is unusable 20 hours in... what other rating could I give it? If Assault Fitness said... "let us send our representative out to fix your bike"... that would have been a more reasonable response. Sending me a chain with no instructions or videos... not so good.
I guess I will try Rouge... but I am not certain what the difference is. But a few folks claim Rouge is superior bike.
So many people claimed Assault was a superior bike!! lol
In any event... good luck people!!
