Mediocre mouse: wheel broken after 8 months, terrible support processes
The mouse wheel broke 8 months into use, and I almost never click the wheel. I was casually scrolling with it when it collapsed under my finger, and it now no longer works at all. If you do a YouTube search, you can see this is a common problem, but the fix involves taking the mouse apart and sticking a nail or screw in to replace a broken shaft. Not going to happen, especially under warranty.
So I filed a ticket with Corsair support. They responded within 48 hours with unclear instructions that told me both to return the mouse, and that returning the mouse wasn't necessary and they had already shipped a replacement. I asked for clarification, and said that if they hadn't already shipped it, I would like to setup an express replacement. Two business days later I hadn't heard anything, so I asked for an update. Five business days later I still hadn't heard back, so I contacted support via chat. They confirmed the replacement had not been shipped and that they were waiting on me to return the defective item. When I asked for express replacement, it became clear that they weren't going to put a hold on my card for the amount of the product - they were going to charge it, and then refund me when they received my replacement. And they wanted $60, $15 more than the product costs at retail.
Guess who pays the cost for return shipping a defective item within warranty? The user! $23 dollars to ship back an unnecessarily large box with too much padding - half the cost of the item. They made sure to let me know I only had 10 days to return the item, which is inexplicable given I've paid for the replacement in full.
I went ahead with the return process because I might as well squeeze whatever life is left out of this purchase, but this is the last Corsair peripheral purchase I'll make, as I'm disappointed in the build quality and support processes. I have little faith that the replacement will last any longer than the original.
The mouse itself is merely ok when working. I wish the precision button wasn't right under my thumb, the grip is awkward, and the software is sub-par. It never remembers my default DPI settings when I reboot, even though I made sure to configure it correctly. Hopefully your experience would be better than mine, but this purchase has changed my perspective on Corsair quality.
Update 1/3/18: I haven't heard anything from Corsair on the defective item I returned, and no refund has been issued. I had to open another ticket to handle this because the other tickets are already closed with no commentary by them. The returned item was received by them on 12/15.
Update 1/10/18: No answer to my ticket I opened asking where my refund is. It's been 5 business days and they promised a response in 2. I requested another update on this ticket. I'm not holding my breath, I'll probably be issuing a chargeback soon with my credit card.
Update 1/20/18: Today they issued a refund which will take 3-5 days to process. This puts the turnaround time for this replacement at around 7.5 weeks.
