PROCEED WITH CAUTION
The ratings were so good on this food line that I was highly optimistic! The price point is certainly exceptional. Product was delivered timely and in good packing condition. #1) I opted for the chicken pasta first. The sauce wasn't bad at all. The pasta shells also were good;not mushy, not hard. This dish failed with the chicken. It was dark meat chicken alternating between fatty and grisly with a gamey flavor. I couldn't get the chicken down. #2) Being a pasta lover I had high hopes for the lasagna next. I couldn't even get 4 bites down. The flavor and texture just flipped my stomach. The noodles were mush. Please forgive me but the meat filling smell reminded me of canned dog food. There was hardly any sauce. Had there been more sauce it may have covered up the meat smell. Keep in mind, I eat Chef Boy R D canned ravioli. I'm not a food snob. #3) The chilli pictured on the box looked delicious so I hoped for the best on day 3. I'm not sure what was in that container but I would not feed that to my dog. I eat Hormel canned Chili so again...I'm not a food snob. That container of "chili" was vile...inedible. I checked the boxes again. The containers were still in date by several months. I can't figure out all the 5 stars reviews for this food. Sometimes you buy a packaged food that doesn't live up to expectations but you can save it by adding some additional ingredients from home. The Lasagna and Chili are not salvageable in my opinion. I have eaten other diet program foods such as Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig. These 3 HMR meals fall below those in both flavor and quality. The good news is that you dont lose much money. If you can find 1 meal out of the 5 that you actually like it is worth the dollar loss on the other 4. I would encourage the company to consider a more expensive line with higher quality ingredients and a greater investment in flavor. I think most people would spend a little more money to get something they actually enjoy eating. I'll update this when I get to the last 2 meals. My final thought is that I would rather spend a couple extra dollars per meal and buy something from my grocery store that I know I would enjoy eating until this company comes out with a higher quality food line.
