Welp. What can I say? I tried to wash this unit before using. I put one of those dish brushes in there and as soon as I *gently* made contact with the bottom side of the glass, a chunk of glass popped out. So now there's just a hole at the bottom of the kettle. I picked up the glass and it's thin as paper - no wonder!! I never even got a chance to turn the kettle on, so I can't tell you much about that, but after this mark of "quality craftsmanship," I would recommend that you opt for a kettle that isn't skimping on glass thickness.
