Beware of the failing RZ-Axis
I loved this hotas flight stick for the 2 years I've owned it. And then one day it started acting up.
And mind you, I have not used this regularly, or put an abusive amount of hours on it. I only use it to play Elite Dangerous, and I'm pretty casual.
The RZ-Axis (twisting motion for the yaw in flight), started erratically moving on its own. To make a long story short, Thrustmaster technical support led me along a long list of things to try to narrow down the issue and rule out software or my own PC. In the end, it was in fact a failure of the potentiometer inside the device. Thrustmaster seemed to be willing to send me a replacement, until they knew I had owned it for more than one year, at which point they said they would do nothing for me.
Less than 2 years of use for what was a $70 controller when I bought it seems absurd. And if Thrustmaster is only supporting their product for 1 year that ought to tell you something.
Once I started googling "T16000 RZ axis failure" I was shocked with the sheer volume of people having this exact issue. So many people, and with such poor support from Thrustmaster, that there are YouTube walkthroughs to de-solder, clean, and replace the RZ potentiometer, multiple Reddit, Frontier (Elite Dangerous) forum posts, and general Q/A about the exact issue I'm having. It isn't an isolated failure. And TM isn't helping anyone.
I'd honestly recommend Logtiech devices at this price point. Thrustmaster missed the mark really hard here, and their lack of support left me feeling really regretful that I bought their product.
UPDATE:
It is now loudly creaking when I pitch up and down. Reduced rating to one star - find a better joystick.
