Quality control problem
The safety control valve was defective and it leaks. I preformed the correct troubleshooting as stated in the manual which helped but after I got the audible leaking to go away I left it pressurized for about 2 hours.
The pressure dropped in the first hour, which is expected on account of thermal expansion and the subsequent cooling of the gas but the second hour passed and I lost another 7.5 psi!!
Well I had another, much older, Craftsman compressor of about the same size so I filled both of them to 115psi and waited an hour.
After an hour, the oldie lost about 5 psi, where this "new" one lost about 10... That's just not acceptable. I will be contacting Craftsman on this one...
Edit:
Ok first I tried to exchange it at Lowe's and Lowe's did not accept it. They said I would have to go through Amazon. I had never returned anything to Amazon before but apparently all I had to do was put everything in the box, select "return this item" and head on down to UPS and drop it off. I received a replacement in two days and the replacement compressor works well and has no noticable leakage
