After starting to use the purifier, in a very short time I could notice an unpleasant odor - something like a faint chemical / metallic / plastic type of smell. After running it for about two hours in my bedroom I noticed that odor was lightly spread throughout my entire upstairs. I smelled the air directly coming out of the top of the purifier and the odor was definitely there. I immediately turned off the purifier but the odor persisted and I could start feeling something in my throat as I breathed. I have asthma and I started experiencing symptoms due to this odor. Now it's the next morning and I can *still* feel it when I breathe which is an awful feeling. And the purifier was only on for about two hours! I can't imagine what it would be like running it for a few days. In defense of the Airmega, I did a lot of research before buying and I didn't read a single thing like I described above. The unit emits no ozone and has no ionizer so it shouldn't do what I described (which other brands apparently do) but, well, it did. Since I have asthma and am very sensitive to odors you may have a completely difference experience than mine, but I wanted to share what I went through since I feel so terrible right now due to this thing.
