Like wearing huge, clunky boxes on your feet and a safety hazard for those who aren't sure footed
Do you know the episode of The Office where Kevin is wearing Kleenex boxes on his feet for shoes? Well, these slippers are just like that. I have no idea how they have so many rave reviews, but I purchased these based solely on the terrific feedback. While they ARE soft, they're a safety hazard. Read on. I wear a ladies size 7 shoe, so ordered accordingly. They arrived quickly. I have to say, I did not purchase them based on their looks. They're clunky, chunky, bulky, and just...well, hugely unattractive. But I digress because I purchased them strictly for comfort and am replacing a pair of Uggs scuffs. Out of the packaging and onto my feet, they're just huge. They're incredibly wide (and I don't have narrow feet, just average width), and so much so that if I step even a tiny bit wrong, my foot winds up on the side of the slipper and it's a tripping hazard. But it gets worse. They're also bigger than what their sizing guide suggests, so my feet slip forwards and get shoved into the toe. In most slippers or shoes, if there's just a minor amount of structure and support, your foot doesn't slip sideways or forward like this. However, these are made of such soft material for the uppers that there's absolutely zero way to keep your foot placed appropriately in the slipper like it should. The sizing issue wouldn't even be a big deal, because I'd expect in the winter with heavy socks on, these would probably be okay. Unfortunately, even for my young, healthy self - these things are a safety hazard. I've almost twisted my ankle once in them just for an incredibly minor misstep - for an elderly person, someone who has an issue with tripping, a person that falls easily, or anyone who needs foot support that's stronger than a tissue - these are NOT for you. I just can't see anyone who intends to move around in these on a regular basis not getting hurt. If you have *really* wide, boxy feet, sit A LOT, just need something to keep your feet warm as you lounge on the couch, or need something to walk short distances once in a while on flat ground, these MIGHT be for you. They are really soft. The memory foam appears to be resilient and shows no signs of compression. The material isn't water resistant or made for outdoor wear. The soles aren't plastic or rubber, but a kind of mashup between the two. They aren't grippy, and they don't seem to be slippery, but on a slippery floor surface, I don't think these would prevent you from slipping (in fact, given my experience, above, they'd likely contribute to a fall). I don't know if the cost is enough for me to bother with returning them, and I'll definitely not be exchanging them. I might hang on to them for winter and see what thicker socks do (hey, maybe if they're good for walking my dogs to our backyard in the winter then I'll just see how long they last for that job), but they may wind up in a donation bin. IMO, I'd save up for a better pair of slippers or house shoes than these.
