Unsafe: Cannot Be Properly Installed
Allow me to be the voice of dissent. First, the good: Is it portable? Yes. It is much lighter and easier to carry than, for instance, the Britax Marathon. This makes it airport-friendly and kinder to parents' backs. This is where the positives end. The car seat's slimness is both a blessing and a curse because its lighter weight and narrowness mean that your taller toddler is going to be a bit pinched in this. This is especially the case with boys, who tend to be bigger. The biggest problem with this car seat is safety. You see, a car seat rises and falls with how easily it can be properly installed by a parent who is usually in a hurry. Even a car seat made of titanium is of little value if your little one is not properly secured in it. I realized the difficulties of this car seat only when I happened to take it to a car seat technician. The first thing he did was roll his eyes and say that he hates this particular car seat because 90% of parents who come to him with it do not have it safely installed and it is not their fault. This car seat is nearly impossible to install safely using the lower anchors of the LATCH feature. You almost need to be Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime to have the strength to tighten this using the latch. Many parents compromise by tightening it as much as they can and moving on. But that is not enough. As long as the car seat continues to wiggle, your little one is not safe and can be whipped around dangerously in a car accident or if you brake too hard. So, you are thinking you'll use the seatbelt, right? The problem remains. It is very, very difficult to tighten the seat belt enough to avoid this moving beyond the 1 inch allowed in the user manual. Many parents do not even realize that only 1 inch of wiggle is allowed. Because this car seat almost cannot be properly tightened, the recline is also an issue. According to the manual, there is a finite range within which it is safe for your child to recline. This car seat has a tendency to recline too much because the latch/seat belt that are supposed to hold it in place are too loose. You might as well put your child in a highchair and go driving. LONG STORY SHORT: The fact that this car seat requires you to pull with inhuman strength and even then is not adequately tightened makes it very unsafe. Skip this one. **Writing reviews is my way of giving back to the Amazon community. [...]**
