Loses connection with controller for no reason, no direct phone control.
Update 2: returned drone because of flight issues detailed in first update. Company sent me a private message offering to either pay me $100 or send me another drone to remove the negative-ish (3 star!) review. So basically, the reviews for any product from this company are worthless, since they’ll just bribe people to remove the negative ones. Update 1: drone randomly loses connection with controller and won’t respond to commands. Worked fine for 10 minutes and then lost connection while hovering 6 feet from me. Had to use phone to land. Phone connection should be less distance and is way less functional, ie no controls. Will try flying again but am leaning towards returning right now as defective. This is my first drone purchase and overall I am happy. I read a lot of reviews on the base model drones with GPS and ended up choosing this one because of the size, remote-adjustable camera angle, and accessories. HolyStone also seems to have a decent reputation in this category. Positives: - Fit, finish, appearance of drone is great. Folding mechanism is good. Light indicators help. - Extra battery included. - Other accessories are high quality. Great case. - Easy to setup and start flying (mostly). - Seems to fly well. Goes where I want it to mostly and seems pretty stable. Drifts a bit, but it’s lightweight. - Have already had a few crashes and it looks unaffected, so seems very durable despite its lightweight. Neutral: - App is straightforward, but a bit limited in functionality. - Instructions are fine, but no sd card instruction and still not 100% sure how it functions. Read another review about formatting in FAT32. Negative: - The order of operations between drone and controller can be a little frustrating. You have to pair the controller to the drone every time you turn the drone off, including when you reset after a crash. The phone will still be connected, so you’ll get through the whole calibration and then need to start over when the blades won’t unlock. Would be nice if it was permanently paired to the controller. - App has no flight controls. It has return to home and the other gps controls, so it would be nice if it had some joysticks in case you lose controller connection. - I left the antenna down on accident, flew it up too high, lost connection, and it just got stuck hovering at about 30m. No input worked, until I hit return home, and it went up and flew into a tree on the way home. So cannot restore connection to remote after losing it and it didn’t return home automatically. Makes me a little nervous to fly it very far at the moment. I will update this review after more flight time. I’m still excited to play with it and it seems capable so far, just with some software/firmware quirks. Disclaimer: they offer a reward for posting a review. It does not say anything about how many stars to leave, so at the moment, might not be sketchy. I haven’t gotten anything yet and if the drone sucks, I’ll return it and leave a 1 star review because paid reviews suck.
