My kitty Caesar is very pleased...but he'll have to move on
This was my original post in 2012...
Doing a bit of homework really paid off in steering me to this product. We had narrowed our choices down to five brands (based on price and quality), and this was the first that we found. Caesar seems to love it, as there is seldom more than 4-5 little kibbles left by the next mealtime. He's also gotten a bit more active than he'd been previously, which is also a good sign. We've actually cut back a bit on one of his feedings, and he's doing great!
I buy this at a local pet store, and it's just a bit more expensive than Iam's Hairball/Weight formula, but worth every penny.
His vet had told us that Caesar is overweight, though I don't think it's due to this cat food (he had only been on this for a week at the time of his appointment). He's due for a shot later this month and they'll weigh him again. I hope that he's lost a bit, because I'd hate to have to switch him again.
Flash forward
It's ironic, looking back, that I began with "Doing a bit of howmework"...I should have done "a LOT of homework". As far as this food goes, I have nothing but great things to say about it. We now have two cats, and each has been getting this food once a day. They both love it! Lady Mae has kept her svelte figure and is full of energy, Caesar had lost about 9 ounces after switching him to this (and other changes in wet foods, too), but still remains a bit pudgy. '
The problem is that this food is made by Dianmond Pet Foods. I knew that this company had a much publicized recall in 2007, buy there are so many recalls in the pet food market, that only a handful of brands haven't had one. What I DIDN'T realize is that Diamond has had five recalls (2007. 2008. 2009. 2012, 2013) in the past 7 years. Not all of them have included Taste of the Wild, but come on! I love the price and the quality, my cats love the taste. Fortunately, we've never gotten a tainted batch, and our cats have never gotten sick from this food. But to continue on feeding this (OR the Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul wet food, also by Diamond), would be playing Russian roulette with out kitties health. After finishing what we have already bougnt (unless another recall hits), I'm done with thie brand. I'm dropping the rating from 4 stars to 2 because as good as the product has been, the recall history of the company just can't be overlooked.
