Not what I expected...not good.
I agree with other reviewers who struggled with this book. I rarely post comments about books, but I felt compelled to comment on this one due to the nature of the hype it has been getting.
First of all, while I appreciate the 'tough love' standpoint, I found myself turned off by Melissa and Dallas's tone throughout the whole book. Most of the book felt very condescending and I found myself angry instead of inspired.
If you are trying to get people to do something you truly believe in, you really need to inspire them. You really need to grab them. Yes, this means that you also probably have to be nice to them at sometime to get them engaged. The book felt like I was constantly being told no, and that many of things I was eating were bad, etc, etc. Think about a child. When you want to get them to do something, would you rather do it positively, or point out all that they are doing wrong.
Also, many people do not have huge changes. Some people, yes, they do have drastic changes because they were eating like crap. However, despite what Melissa and Dallas try to point out, many of us do NOT have complete crap diets. Many of us are doing great and perhaps wanted a little pick me up or a different view on how to enhance our diets. I felt as though this book did not speak to us. Most of the testimonials were from extreme cases. Someone had 1,000 health conditions and of course they felt better. What about someone who isn't on medications, already exercises, eats well, etc...would you still want them following this diet? Then why.
Overall disappointed.
Try again Melissa and Dallas. Be more compassionate. Be more relatable. Be more sincere. Give hope. Inspire those of us who just need a small push and not a big one.
