This is an update to my previous post: This device does clear out algae after a few days. It actually works, BUT I won’t buy it (or other similar designs) again because it’s just too $#@!-ing fragile! I had a hard time pulling apart the compartment to clean the sponge filter. The sudden pull-out made me drop the unit, cracking the glass tube housing for the uv bulb. I had shaved down the plastic snaps to make pulling the outer casing smoother, but it’s too late. Despite replacing the glass tube, these is probably cracks else where with the plastic housing. I have had to replace the uv bulb a few times because the shorted out from water vapor seeping into the bulb housing.
