I have bought a lot of WD pocket drives over the years, last set of 5 were the 4TB ones, and they worked wonderfully. Fast transfers, never a hint of problem. These 5TB versions? Goodness, what has gone wrong?? I have been so looking forward to them due to running out of space on the 4TB ones, but these 5TB ones are atrocious. I tried a Seagate 5TB a while ago, and it went back too due to similar problems. Maybe there is some issue with what they have had to do to squeeze 5TB in the package. Seems like it would have been picked up in some testing. And even worse, the already poor transfer speeds vary across different drives of the same model. I picked up 2, and one was only able to transfer at a quarter of the speed of the other. Couldn't get much more than about 5-10MB/sec. Plugged the 4TB drive into the exact same computer with the exact same everything (not even rebooting) and it transfers way faster and is just far more responsive. And every 4TB behaves exactly the same as the other ones. Rock solid. This 5TB thing is a disaster. I used to hold WD in pretty high regard. Not anymore. Whatever you do, don't waste your time with these things.
