★☆☆☆☆
Bad writing, bad editing, and gratuitous sexual violence
I honestly am shocked at the high reviews this book got - I found it to be poorly written and edited (for example, neither the translator nor the editor apparently knows the difference between "prized" and "pried" -- this error was repeated multiple times so that things read "he prized [sic] her fingers off his arm," which is pretty sad). The plot jumped around unnecessarily and characters that were superficial and underdeveloped. Plus there were graphically described sexual encounters that seemed completely out of place. Most were the same sort of smut you'd expect from a romance novel, but partway through o keep things form getting boring the author threw in some gratuitous sexual violence: one of the sisters gets raped by a sado-masochist. This in no way ties into any other plot lines and was completely unnecessary. Of course the after effects of the rape were given the same superficial treatment as everything else in the book. I'm upset that I spent any time reading it.
