I've been with this series since the first episode of season one. I practically counted the days until Season 7 started. Strangely, I think this episode might have pushed me over the edge. Sure, it's a violent show, a graphic show, and that is fine. To a point. I think that my personal line may just have been crossed. For some reason, it's one thing to see a zombie's head get smashed in, and a bit different to see a "living" character's head get smashed in blow by blow one after another. I don't know that I needed to see two characters have their skulls caved in blow by blow. At some point, it is counterproductive to the show, and I can't believe I'm saying that. I don't know. I feel like about 75% of my enthusiasm for continuing to watch TWD was just wiped away with one episode. Yeah, I think they screwed up here. By trying to go all in and create the motherlode season opener, they went a bit too far. Far enough to where I'm less interested, not more. Whatever, I'm sure most people will like it, and my opinion is probably in the minority corner. But I have to admit that I'm significantly less into the show today than I was yesterday. It might be time to move on. 2Majesties is right. Edit: One thing I'd like to make clear. I can understand why some people find the more intense direction of the show to be an improvement. Fair enough. I'm not suggesting the show should be banned or anything like that. If people like it, great. Yes, the show has been gory before. Yes, the show has been violent before. My perception is that something changed in the writing or directing here. Someone made a conscious decision to make the show more graphic or emotionally disturbing with this episode. This was a calculated decision. All I can say is, for me, it didn't work. For some people, it probably did. Everyone has their own idea of what they find fun to watch and what is "too far". Up until now, I enjoyed the show. Now, less so. By the way, I found Negan's character not to be scary or tough or intimidating, but rather annoying. The whole "bring me my axe" thing, for example, was really repetitive and dull. I found myself wanting to tell Negan to shut up. Here's your dang axe. Now be quiet. Rather than a creepy bad guy, he was like a broken record...like they had a bunch of time they had to fill and they didn't know what to write into the script.
