Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

After reading all the reviews on how wildly inaccurate this thing is and then reading all the rave reviews, I figured that the folks who didn't like this thermometer must be a tad "slow" and didn't know how to use it correctly. I threw caution to the wind and bought one 5 months ago, primarily for use with my now 11-month old daughter. Heed my warning: the reviews complaining of this being inaccurate are SPOT ON. We don't trust this thermometer much more than as a "is it possible she has a temperature?" indicator, and often not even for that. For example, after a month of realizing this thing varies a ridiculous amount my husband and I can each took 5 readings within a 30 minute timeframe, some back to back, some waiting 5 minutes, some waiting 10. We got ranges of 99.1 to 102.1 on a quiet, non-moving baby. Yes, ranges of almost 3 degrees. The rectal thermometer verified her actual temperature was 102.4. This thermometer was a huge waste of money and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. After doing some sleuthing I find that a large majority of the "rave" reviews come from folks who were provided this thermometer free to review. Sure, some folks may not be biased when they write a review on a free product, but based on the high rating this thermometer has on Amazon vs. my horrendous first-hand experience with it I'm thinking those folks are few and far between. Do yourself a favor and do NOT buy this thermometer.
