Reading this will save a lot of time and frustration.
Here's how you setup this printer:
1) Unpack and confirm all the parts on the list are in the box, including the software CD.
2) Follow the instructions for wireless setup since you don't have a CD drive.
3) Confirm that the wireless setup doesn't work because the instructions are for several different printers and the menu on this one doesn't have the "Setup Wizard." That's only on the CD.
3) Drive across town and borrow a friends portable CD drive.
4) Install the CD drive software on your computer.
5) Run the CD to the point where it tells you to connect the printer to your computer with an A-to-B USB cable, Not the regular kind.
6) Make phone calls to other friends until you find one who has an A-to-B because it's not on the parts list and not in the box.
7) Drive across town in the other direction to borrow the cable.
8) Connect the printer and your computer with the cable. (May require moving furniture and/or crawling under desks, since this isn't the wireless method.)
9) Run the CD again and let it install the printer driver on your computer. This actually works.
10) Run the whole thing again, this time to select the right wireless network. Pretty straight forward.
11) Try and fail to print a test page.
12) Call Brother Tech Support. They are closed.
13) Return to step 8 try several more times, enough to get reeeealy frustrated.
14) Pack up printer, print return label, haul it to the post office, wish it "Hasta La Vista, Baby."
15) On the way home drive 35 miles to your friends' homes and back to return the CD drive and Cable.
16) Stop at the bar and have enough beer so you won't kick the dog when you get home. It's not his fault.
17) Go online and order an HP printer.
