I had hoped that with all the positive reviews that this cable would have lasted longer than it did. The sheathing near the lightning plug pulled back and exposed the wires underneath within 2 months of purchase. The only use it gets is when it gets plugged into my phone for the night and unplugged in the morning. It's not like I have it plugged into an iPad or iPhone while the device is being used. That being said, it continues to charge my phone even with the wires somewhat exposed and if I grip the cord with one hand and firmly run the fingers of my other hand up the sheathing toward the point where it pulled away, the sheathing does cover the wires again but only for a short while. It's just disappointing that with the price tag as high as it is, that the cord wasn't more durable especially with such light, gentle use. I was encouraged and responded, exchanging a couple of email with Belkin reps. I was asked to send a photo of the charger which I did. I am posting that on here on amazon as well. I then received a call from Belkin saying that they did not cover damaged items, only defective ones and that they would not replace my cord. This cord was treated very gently. I have had several other ipad and iPod and iPhone cords that have lasted YEARS without separating like this one did. I use my ipad cord with my ipad plugged in all the time. This Belkin cord, I used with my iPhone and NEVER used my phone while it was plugged into the cord; it's use was extremely gentle and extremely limited. In my opinion, if they don't consider the sheathing separating like this, a defect, their design is actually worse than I thought and I downgrade my review from 2 stars to 1 and I'd give it a 0 if possible. The wires should not become exposed, becoming a potential fire hazard, after 2 months of gentle daily use.
