Needs Work & Rethink of Donate Nag Implementation UPDATE!
Update: Well they are being sued, only took 18 months. Hope they win! Just be aware that they MAY disappear at some point in the future. Be aware, plan contingency ahead.
WSJ article 7/31/19 - Networks Sue to Stop Streaming Service Offering Free TV Feeds
Check their website first to see if Locast covers your TV broadcast market, at this time they only serve 6 or 7.
Be aware that unless you donate you will get a 15 second nag screen interrupting your program every 15 minutes asking you to donate, every time you change channels you will get the nag asking you to donate. This is a new "feature" that only started maybe a month ago.
This nag makes Locast almost unusable and Locast needs to rethink the implementation of this method of fundrasing. It needs to be dialed back. I also am going to guess it is a method of load control because if you are not watching and the nag plays and you do nothing it kicks you out to the guide. If so they might consider a "are you still there?" opaque box pop up that gives you a minute or two to respond without interrupting the program. I think the donate nag could be part of that. If you want to see how it works without the nag $1 should get you a week to try it.
The guide UI needs to be able to be brought up without requiring you to back out of the channel you are currently watching. FitzyTV does this beautifully. You can load Locast into FitzyTV app as a provider to see how much better it is. Problem with FitzyTV is that (depending on market) it will not support/show all the channels Locast has, a few (mostly subchannels) may be missing.
It is a great idea, it needs work, I hope they don't get sued out of existence or find the loophole they operate on closed by big media lobbie$ influen$ing politicians.
