WORST Wireless Gaming Headset For PS4! Read summary for full info.
This was the only headset I've been interested in since buying the Playstation Gold heaset and hating them.
Pros:
Fully wireless for PS4 & PS3 gaming
DTS 7.1 Surround Sound
Good Bass
Seperate Game and Chat controls - I hated how the Playstation Gold headset just balanced the 2.
Cons:
Fits pretty tight so using them with glasses could cause a little pain
The mic monitoring feature is almost non existant. - Only way I could hear myself through my headset was by making the mic touch my lips and if it's too close and you say certain words you'll hear a "pfft" sound coming through your mic. So the only time mic monitoring works is when it can annoy you.
This is the best fully wireless gaming headset for the PS3 & PS4. They are the 1st DTS 7.1 surround sound headset and you can tell. When playing Destiny I could hear explosions pretty far away and clearly. The bass is good, everything is really good sound wise for gaming. The chat is also very clear. I previously used a Turtle Beach X12 headset with a Turtlebeach Chat Cable to use for chatting. They were fairly good but I was tired of getting tangled up. The Playstation Gold headsets are horrible compared to these so throw in $30 more and get these. They're well worth it.
My only complaints really were the mic monitoring being horrible and nonexistant. It feels different when playing and not being able to hear my voice through my headset at all. Sounds like I'm whispering but to everyone else I'm loud and clear. I had took my X12's little foam mic cover and used that to stop that "pft" sound I mentioned, I think the 500Ps should come with those because they definitely help. This headset also fits pretty tight. I've got them adjusted as big as they go to put the least amount of pressure on my head. They feel fine now but I haven't went on a extensive gaming session over 3 hours so i can't guarantee they hurt after all day of gaming but I will edit this when I do know for sure. They definitely feel uncomfortable with glasses on and that seems to be the common complaint in the reviews for this headset.
If anyone has questions about the headset feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer. I've never wrote a review, other than something like "works very good" lol. So I can explain more in depth when asked a question.
EDIT 11/20/14:
I've just had some issues today to report, playing GTA Online with some friends and I'd hear a pop and the radio/game volume would quiet down for about 5-10 secs and come back to normal. Happens about 5 times within 5 minutes. Contacted Turtle Beach Support to find a solution.
EDIT 12/15/14:
Sorry about not updating. They wanted me to send the headset in but I didn't want too because it's the only one I have now. I did however, let the headset fully charge, unplugged the headset and kept it off, powered down PS4 completely, and unplugged USB Dongle. Set it all back up about 30 min - 1 hr later and it has been fine since.
EDIT 05/24/15:
Just took off the headset and the right extending part above the actual earcup bent/broke. I guess the 8 months of taking it on and off finally did it in. Gonna try to go through Turtle Beach for the warranty, never used their warranty service before.
EDIT 09/14/15:
The replacement headset broke again in the same exact spot. It seems to be a poor design. I no longer commend this headset at all. I've had a pair of X12s for probably 5 years. The 500Ps don't last a year without breaking.
EDIT 10/17/15:
I sent the headset in for repair on 09/15/15, a month later and I've yet to receive another replacement. I will no longer be using Turtle Beach Products. I'll be switching to Astro headsets from here on out. Avoid this product and save your money for a better product. Their service is horrible and the design of the headset is cheap and destined to break.
