One significant potential problem when adjusting voltage
Tekpower TP3005T There is one significant design flaw and a less important issue that prevents me from keeping this unit. 1. This issue has been identified in a previous review by a purchaser. After the unit is turned on the blinking digit to adjust both the voltage and the current is the left or most significant digit. This means that, for example, if you are using this power supply with a 3.3v system the default adjustment digit after turning it on is the 10's digit and it's very, very easy to accidently turn the knob when you are trying to push it to select the next digit. In the blink of an eye you've gone from 3.3v to 13.3v or worse. The unit does remember the last digit that you selected from the previous adjustment which is nice but it does not remember this after the unit is turned off and back on. If there was even a short interruption in the A/C power the unit will come back up to the desired voltage but if you didn't realize this and pressed the voltage adjust knob and turn it thinking you were adjusting the same digit that you just previously did, poof. Be careful. For me this is a show-stopper. 2. The second issue is that although the Lock function works great and prevents adjusting the voltage or current when this indicator is on, it does not remember this setting if the unit is turned off and back on. This means that if you selected the lock function and expect it to remain locked even after the A/C power was interrupted it won't. Not necessarily a show-stopper, though. Be careful. On the positive side, the unit presents itself beautifully and well packaged and has no chemical smell as mentioned in so many other reviews. The displays are bright and the knobs work very well. It would be nice if a separate Output Power button were on the panel but it's not. I bought two of these power supplies but with the two issues mentioned above I'll have to return them. My problem is that sooner or later I know I will inadvertently blow up a circuit because of the way the digits are selected. I don't know why they didn't default to the least significant digit as a precaution. On a side note, the included low-voltage banana plug to alligator clip cable was non-functional. Plugging it into the power supply and measuring voltage at the alligator clips showed zero volts. As mentioned in a previous review, the problem seems to be in the banana plug where it seems loose and they were obviously loose. I didn't see a way to tighten them up either. It wasn't a loose wire but something internal to the banana plug mechanical. It seems likely that the two issues that I have with the unit are probably internal software functions and if fixed I would gladly buy them again. I would give it 4 stars if the number one problem was fixed and 5 if they had both problems fixed.
