★★☆☆☆
Great board, horrible cover! Not made to last for a seamstress or one that irons items.
I purchased this board because of the Fibertech board and the width. My last ironing board was years old and the metal underneath started to rust and bleed up to the material I was pressing so Fibertech sounded perfect! My board arrived without damage and sits as solid as expected. Why I knocked off 2 star and almost returned it, is because of the 100% cotton cover that is on this unit. I do quilting and sewing and often use a higher heat setting with steam. This cover scorches, burns and has a horrible odor when using a cotton setting. The smell was so bad you could almost taste it! It appears to have been treated with some chemical that causes this problem, cotton shouldn't scorch when using a cotton setting, steam should have no effect on cotton. The instructions say not to wash the cover just wipe it when soiled...hymmmm! I ended up removing the cover from the main unit and the sleeve unit and making new covers for them. I use cotton all the time and have never had this type of a problem with an ironing board cover. I also added extra padding to it since it came with one layer of poly fiber underneath. I think the board is great but if you are a quilter or sewer plan on a new cover as soon as you purchase it. I was going to just knock off 1 star but I have never experienced such a poor cotton cover and at the price paid one shouldn't have to make a new covers as soon as they get it. Update (Oct.2, 2012), I did wash the ironing board cover and let it drip dry, the chemical smell was removed and it would take a hot iron. Only trouble is it shrunk too much to be used even though I didn't put it in the dryer. The cover is made in China so it is hard to tell what chemical it had been treated with. Not good...Updated (July 15, 2017): this ironing board is not made to last changed to two stars. I've had it less than 5 years and not sure when it cracked, hid by padding and cover. I went to replace my cover on the ironing board and it is almost cracked in half! I am a sewer so use it more than most but do not sew commercially, only for myself. I would expect it to hold up better :-( Stained and broke! I also paid $60.05 for it when purchased, disappointed. See picture.
