Buyer Beware ! Deceptive Advertising, Faulty Construction, Definitely NOT Leather, Pathetic Customer "Support"
I received this $324 "Leather" massage chair early May 2017 to help alleviate my lower back pain. I'm a disabled senior so at best the chair has received very light use. I certainly wasn't looking for problems but by mid August 2017 it became apparent that the entire right side of this chair's seat and arm rest were collapsing. I can't tell if it is due to the frame or other issues but in short order the chair will be unusable for any purpose much less as a 'relaxing massage chair'. In addition to this, there are areas of the chair's covering near the arm rest's seams that are becoming extensive and full thickness. These cracks reveal that the chair's prominently advertised "Leather" covering is in reality some sort of very poor vinyl, with the fabric base readily visible. As per Amazon I contacted directfrommaker about these issues fully expecting some sort of fair resolution. A $324 chair should be reasonably expected to last longer than 3 months by any standard or measure (much less the outlandish lie about its "Leather" covering !) The very nature of these defects didn't allow their discovery till their failures revealed the miserably poor workmanship and materials used. Instead directfrommaker sent me an email disallowing any remediation because I had "exceeded the return/refund timeline" and added "could I please understand and find some one to 'help me fix the problems' ! They completely ignored the deceptive "leather" advertising and then had the unmitigated gall to plead that "I close the case with Amazon" to save THEM any problems ?!?!? I spoke with Amazon customer support who seemed to understand and support my complaints perfectly. The rep then referred my complaint "for investigation" promising I would be contacted by an agent for further information. This resulted in another email from directfrommaker expressing that they were very "sad" I had filed a complaint against them, once again asking that I "please try and find some one to help me repair the problems" (at my sole effort and expense !) and yet again pleading for MY understanding !!! To add insult to injury I almost immediately received an email from 'Pavan K' an Amazon support specialist denying my claim because I had exceeded the 45 day return deadline. I was never contacted, as promised, for any further proof or information ? I can't imagine what sort of "investigation" was undertaken to help me resolve my legitimate issues ? I repeat, by any measure or standard a $324 chair should be expected to last longer than 45 or even 90 days under normal use before developing issues that preclude its useful life ! I genuinely love Amazon and until now have been very satisfied with what they sell and how they resolve any complaints/issues but they seriously dropped the ball with this one. Interestingly neither Amazon nor directfrommaker even bothered to address the issues with the crappy chair shoddy construction, nor the blatant lie concerning the "leather""covering actually being some sort of inferior vinyl. Their denial was based solely on an arbitrary deadline that doesn't at all allow adequate time to discover the kind of issues present in this or any other kind of durable furniture that anyone would reasonably expect to last far longer. Again much less the blatant lie about the "Leather" prominently featured in the title of the advertisement. Shame on both Amazon and especially the fraudulent directfrommaker. I've already contacted the BBB with my complaints and plan on availing all of my local TVmand newspaper consumer helplines to try and effect a fair and reasonable solution with this issue. I used my Amazon store card to pay for the purchase so surprisingly it has no warranty provisions at all to protect consumers against defective/fraudulent merchandise past 45 days. Had I used ANY other regular credit card, such as my Chase Amazon.com card all purchases over $150 would have had an additional 5 year extended warranty to protect me So much for "Helping Amazon Build Earth's Most Consumer-centric Company".
