I really want to love these books. I purchased these for my infant daughter. I was excited to start teaching her earlier about strong women. I have no problem with the women selected in these books. Great choices. However the tiny sentence or two that is said about some is not only inaccurate but not very well thought out. The quote from Cleopatra. Why say she said something that she didn’t. Hillary Clinton. Yes I am with her. But saying she proves women could be leaders by running for president is really a poor choice when she most unfortunately lost the election. She has a lengthy political career, could the writers really not think of another example of leadership for her? My five month old doesn’t know she lost but someday she will be able to read on her own and this makes it seem like she won. Not to mention historically inaccurate quotes from other women. These wonderful women represented in these books deserved a little bit better, even for a board book that most infants are going to chew on. All that said don’t stop yourself from making this purchase. It is a start. A start at teaching our boys and girls history. For little ones that can read and I understand use it as a starting point for more discussion.
