We need more power Scotty!
I bought this mower because it got mostly good reviews on Amazon and had a recommended review on Consumer Reports. I must say I was very excited about the prospect of having a lawn mover that was not only environmentally friendly, but quiet as well! After unpacking the mower and putting it together, thats where my excitement ended.
I have a relatively small yard and with the 1/3rd of an acre claim by the product description, that should meet more than enough power to handle my entire yard. I began mowing and noticed immediately that the blades were having trouble keeping speed thru my grass. It would shut off in thicker areas or drag down so low that it wasn't cutting. Still, if I backed off and pushed forward again, it would cut the lawn. After completing three rectangular rows around my front lawn using the self propelled off and on, the battery begain to show signs of draining. So I shut off the mower and checked the battery indicator light. Sure enough, it was down to the last arrow. It took me three full charges just to finish the front lawn.
When heading to the back yard I decided not to use self propelled to see if that extended battery life. I was able to complete 75% of the back lawn on one charge without using the self propelled functionality. Still two charges to finish the small back yard, but better performance.
Please note my grass is Bahia, a thicker tropical grass. If you have Rye grass or some other thin grass, you may have better results. But with the small size of my lawn, I thought it would have met my needs as well.
Unfortunately, I have had to return the mower after 1 full yard mowing. As much as the idea of a quiet mower that doesn't use grass entices me, spending 3 days to mow the lawn does not!
