The blood pressure monitoring feature is inaccurate and unreliable
I bought this watch exclusively for its blood pressure monitoring feature. I didn’t need a watch for anything else. I had read reviews on other watches and the reviews for this one seemed the least discouraging.
I used it and compared its readings with the readings from a cuff Omron home monitor and the readings were often too different and moved in opposite directions to be of use for me.
I calibrated the watch following the sparse instructions provided. The readings would sometimes be close within + or – 5 point (mm Hg) from the Omron for a few times in a row, which was encouraging. But then, for no apparent reason they would deviate and would not recover.
I placed my hand so that my wrist would be at the top part of my heart level, as it is supposed to be. I placed my arm either extended or bent on a pillow so that the watch would not move at all and my muscles would not be tense. I tried on both wrists and even on the bottom side of my wrists where the blood vessels are more visible. I used the watch on the same and in the opposite arm where I had the Omron monitor. I tried reading my pressure with both monitors at the same time and one before the other, then switching their sequence. I cleaned my wrists and the tiny glass windows on the bottom of the watch with alcohol-damp Q-tips very often because any build up would lead it to produce identical, repeated readings instead of warnings. But it would still not give me reliable readings.
I tried for over 8 hours a day, several days over a 2 weeks period and re-calibrated the watch more than 50 times. At the end the watch did not seem to respond to calibrations and kept giving readings very similar to one another regardless of whether my blood pressure was much higher or lower. It may have reached a calibration memory saturation point.
I could use this watch if the blood pressure readings were up to 8 mm too high or too low, as long as they changed in the same direction as my Omron, i.e. if it indicated whether my blood pressure was going up or down. But it did not. It’d sometimes show rising pressure readings when my cuff monitor was showing a lowering blood pressure and the other way around.
At the end, and much to my disappointment, I decided that I could not use this watch’s blood pressure readings because they were too misleading.
I hope that the manufacturer redesigns this watch and makes it a reliable Blood Pressure monitor, then I will be happy to buy it again. I suspect that the glass windows in the bottom need to be bigger and places recessed deeper into the watch to avoid interferences from skin cells or dust specks that may find its way there.
Other than for the blood pressure option, it is a nice watch and people may like it for its many other features. I have no opinion regarding any of the other features in this watch as I did not test them or care about them.
I would pay ten times the price of this watch for one that accurately read my blood pressure. But I can't find any. Only inflatable cuff monitors seem to be accurate for what I can see. I wish someone would tell me of a good one.
