Feminist Wannabe, Crappy Writing, and Regurgitated Music Wasted a Good Cast
Meh. There was a lot of reused music that was out of place starting with the first song where all the village residents sing "We are a Part of a Rhythm Nation." But I can't figure out how they are a part of a rhythm nation, and it is never actually explained why they say that. The overuse of regurgitated music is irritating. Is wasn't really an original story, and the message that Cinderella could make her own decision was eventually lost in the age-old love story by the end. So, overall, this tried to be a feminist story and failed, making it a silly attempt at something new. There was nothing wrong with the acting, but the writing was crap with the good guys not good enough to like and the bad guys not really bad enough to hate. So, this was an impressive acting lineup totally wasted on this script. It felt like it was rushed into production as a vehicle to launch Camilla Cabello into an acting role like that forgettable movie with Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson. If you liked that one, you'll probably like this one. They're about on par.
