It's very lightweight, and at first, the cats knocked it over every time they scratched on it, and quickly lost interest. Today, I nailed a small length of cheap wood to the base to increase the stability, and now they love it. The wood was less than a dollar and I had the nails already. If you don't want to give up on this scratcher and are willing to do a few minutes work, this might be the solution for you. :-)
