Contains two synthetic chemicals
It took me a long time to finally peel the label off the back of the bottle. I have to admit I was really surprised to see two synthetic preservatives in this "natural dish liquid". They are, methylisothiazolinone (EWG rating 6) and benzisothiazolinone (EWG rating 5). Those are not natural ingredients.
I could not figure out why this detergent smelled like paint. Wikipedia helped:
"Benzisothiazolinone has a microbicide and a fungicide mode of action. It is used as a preservative in emulsion paints, varnishes, adhesives, washing agents, fuels and in the papermaking process. In paints, it is commonly used as a mixture with methylisothiazolinone."
Oh, so my fragrance-free natural detergent smells like paint because it uses the same synthetic chemical preservative as paint and varnish.
