I first ordered this item a couple of months ago, and to my utter delight it worked extremely well. Two weeks later I ordered an additional 5 of these litter boxes for my multi-cat household. The additional litter boxes stopped working 3 minutes after being assembled and plugged in -- my cats hadn't even used it yet. I spoke with PetSafe's customer service who diagnosed the problem as "something wrong with the conveyor motor," and the sent me 4 replacement motors. In the interim, the original box -- which had been working fine -- stopped working for the same reason: A steady red light showed on the display and the conveyor ceased to operate. I phoned PetSafe once again and was told that they'd "been having some problems with the newer model," which is the one I purchased. They couldn't answer me why they were continuing to produce and ship to paying customers a product which they knew had a major performance problem. When I spoke with PetSafe management, they tried to blame it on the brand of litter I was using, but when I asked them what litter they recommend (and why they don't make their recommendation clear to consumers) it was the very same brand: TidyCat. So for the couple of weeks the 1st unit worked it did a great job and I was absolutely thrilled with the product. However, now I've had to re-box all 6 of these rather large units and ship them back for a refund because all of them HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. PetSafe suggested that I purchase their older model automatic litter box, but since I'm already waiting for a $600 refund from Amazon I've decided not to take my chances with any more of their products. They're aware of the design flaw and, rather than correct same and provide consumers with a self-cleaning litter box that works, PetSafe continues to manufacture over-rated litter boxes at about $100 a pop that either stop working immediately or shortly after purchase. Wow -- what a MESS! If I were able to give negative stars, I certainly would!
