Short version: Be careful!! Know your cats!! These are fine for cats who respect them, but if your cat still tries to get around them, your cat CAN hurt itself badly on these mats! Explanation: At first I thought this product was great: I felt the spikes and they seemed a gentle enough deterrent. Two of my cats did exactly what you would expect — they avoided the mats. We had the mats placed on the floor in front of a pet gate to keep the cats far enough away so they would not jump the gate. My third, adventurous cat was intent only on finding away around these defenses. In trying to jump/climb around, he fell onto the mats and tore off a hind toenail. Pain, blood, and $400 in vet bills later, these mats will no longer be used in my house. Was it a freak accident? Probably. But the upshot is: if your cats do not respect these mats, they MAY get badly hurt.
