I regret having to submit this negative review because I love everything else about this little tea kettle, the size, the beautiful color, the handle, and the large opening which makes it easy to pour water into to it. I purchased the Le Creuset Enamel-on-Steel Demi 1-1/4-Quart Teakettle, Caribbean in November 2014. I was not used to a black interior on a tea kettle but let that go. I use it every morning to boil water to make tea brewed in the cup. I only put water in the kettle. I live in the San Francisco area and we have very high quality water. Six months ago I began thinking I was losing my taste for tea as it just didn't hit the spot like I always remembered. Today I poured the remaining water into a glass and later took a sip to find a very dirty taste to it even though the water appeared clear. I smelt the inner tea kettle and it had a dirty metallic smell. I put my finger in and brushed it across the bottom of the inner surface and it came out watery black. So I filled the kettle with about an inch of soapy water and scrubbed it with a plastic dish brush for a minute and poured the water out into a 16 oz glass. To my shock the water was almost black. I couldn't believe it. (see attached picture) I am attempting to return it and get it upgraded to the same model in stainless steel. I am also concerned because I bought one for a friend about a year ago. Bottom line ... sadly I would not purchase this beautiful caribbean blue tea kettle again as I don't want a cooking pot with a black interior that makes it hard to see what it's condition is, and has deteriorated and contaminated my heated water for months or more. Update: November 2018 I did return the Caribbean blue pot and included a check for $30 so my replacement would be the stainless steel version which I asked for when I called for the return. I have had the stainless steel version for over six months and am very happy with it. The inside is stainless steel, not the black enamel, and looks great (see second picture). The exchange took several months because they sent another Caribbean pot by mistake the first time. The top does fit a bit tight, but it is so easy to fill with water with that wide opening.
