A worthy glove
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Wow. Calfskin gloves have been my go-to choice for 45 years now, and I've seen the quality drop so much that I'm not surprised when a pair lasts only a month or two. I've come to expect it, and I've come to accept it. Maybe not any more.
After buying yet another couple pairs from WM, HD, or LOW for $9.98, I thought I'd see what was available from Amazon. I bought the basic glove and the palm-reinforced version.
The basic glove will be my go-to now, and I will buy two more pair immediately because this kind of quality seems to disappear without notice these days.
They arrive in a zip-lock that's worth keeping for other purposes. The fit is extraordinary right off the bat, and the leather is unbelievably soft. Some folk might think soft leather is less durable, but it's not always so... I have $160 ski patrol gloves with the softest (treated) leather you can imagine, but they are are tough as iron. That said, I will wait to see if these measure up in toughness.
The UN-reinforced gloves I received were notably thicker than the reinforced gloves. That's not necessarily a bad thing – it's as if the reinforced gloves kept the thickness only where you need it. But I am buying two more pair of the un-reinforced glove... the leather is so thick that you don't need a palm pad, and yet it's soft and supple.
I'll update this review with more wear time, but man I have never seen a glove like this at a price like this.
UPDATE:
Well, perhaps they were too good to be true. I am hard on gloves... I use them for chopping, shoveling, dumping and I sometimes scrape away stone and dirt with them... I usually drench them completely in sweat before the day is done. I have four pairs of these now, and two pair have started to come apart at the seams. This is happening in various places, but the finger tips and the crotch of the thumb seem to be the most common. It appears as though the threads have worn through. So in the end I can't recommend these for hard or dirty work, but they're supple and luxurious for light or medium duty work... keep 'em away from water, sweat and dirt if you can.
UPDATE 2:
The seller Deepak contacted me to pledge that they would increase the durability of the stitches. That's good. They also offered to refund my money if I would remove this "negative" review. That's bad. I've fallen for false or influenced/manipulated reviews too many times... I will not take part in such deceit.
Improve your gloves Deepak. Then send me a pair if you'd like and I'll take 'em for a rough ride and report the results. And in those results I'll tell the whole story. That's the way to build trust... and your brand.
