Well, I hope you're happy Anker...Now I can catch reckless lying drivers
I recently purchased 2 of these dash cams. This dash cam is very nice. It has a sleek metal build and great feel to it. The power button feels solid and the touch capacitive buttons respond easily to touch. The menu and settings is simple and easy to navigate. Included in the box was a car trim plastic tool, 2 stick on cam mounts (in case you mess up installing the first one, the second one is a nice backup), a two port car charger, a 10 foot long micro usb cable, quick setup guide, user manual and the cam. The trim tool was very helpful in helping me hide the wiring. It would have been a nightmare if I didnt have it! I chose to install a 128 GB micro sd card so I could record up to around 21 hours of video before my files start being overridden. The app is also nice as it allows you to work most of the settings over the cam's wifi. It also allows you to watch all the recordings stored on your cam and download them. As others have mentioned, the downloading of videos takes a while. However, with that being said, for me it still beats taking out the sd card everytime and plugging it into a computer to download the videos. The video quality from this cam is good but it has limitations. You can see license plates clearly up to about 15 feet or less. A little more range and pixels would have been a nice touch for better license plate capturing. As for heat issues, I live in south Texas and the heat easily reaches over 100 degrees especially in the car in the summer. Yet this has not had any negative effect on it. As a side note, if you have a cigarette outlet that has constant power in your car, you will need to manually shut down this dash cam using the power button or by unplugging it. It will come on automatically the next time the vehicle is started. It would be nice if Anker adds a menu option to help with this type of setup in the future. Update 8/22/2017: After using the dash cam for about 2 and a half to 3 months now, this morning I noticed that the screen is detaching from the unit. I am very disappointed by this as this seems to be a common defect as noted by other reviewers. I loved this camera so much but it looks like I will be forced to send it in for a replacement, apparently it just can not handle the Texas heat without issues. On the plus side though the cam is still fully functional. Update 9/4/2017: The screen is now separating from the 2nd Anker dash cam that I bought along with the first one. This dash cam is in my wife's vehicle and it is mostly garage kept except when she goes out for work errands and etc so when she sent me the picture below (pic with red truck in background) I was even more disappointed than when this happened to my dash cam. Now to start the return process again please fix this Anker everything else about this cam is great except this issue . Due to the issues with both cameras I have dropped my review from 4 stars down to 2 stars, if the replacement dash cams hold up I will revisit my review and rating. Update 10/25/2017: Anker replaced both faulty dash cams and I haven't had any further problems with them. The first replacement process went smoothly they quickly shipped out a replacement cam and I sent the old one back. The second replacement process for my other dash cam did not go as smoothly Anker informed me that I would need to ship off the faulty dash cam first using their prepaid label before they would ship my replacement which wouldn't be a problem except we didn't have anything in our vehicle for proof if someone had run into us or etc while waiting on the replacement which temporarily defeated the purpose of having a dash cam to begin with. Additionally they also initially requested that I send back the charger and cable, mind you that the usb power cable is tucked behind my vehicle's trimming meaning that I would have to tear my vehicle apart to remove the cable. I still love Anker products but I feel that customer service and quality control on some of their products needs tweaking. Update 6/2/2018: During a recent road trip my wife noticed that the screen on the replacement dash cam that Anker sent out to us a while back was bulging out just like the other cam that we had to send back a few months ago. I was assured by Anker before they sent out this dash cam that they had resolved the issue with the battery that causes the screen to pop and bulge out but apparently this does not seem to be the case. I wonder what happens once my warranty runs out and this same issue occurs. (posted updated pics)
